Leonard Volkmer completed his Master's degree in Visual Communication
at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, where he is now part of the Graduate
School for Moving Images. With "The King of Spain", he was the winner of
the Golden Dove Short Film (German Competition Documentary Film) at DOK
Leipzig in 2024. His work has been shown at Courtisane Festival,
Filmfest Dresden, Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival and beyond.
His artistic practice encompasses photography, film, writing and sound. Through these media he transforms deeply personal experience into broader societal reflection. Themes of queerness, addiction and loss run through his work, rendered with both intimacy and critical distance. As part of the GBB program, his current research focuses on the development of new film work.
